Easy to prepare, and gratifying, the grenadine can be used with soda, milk or sparkling wine – we had this drink, decorated with fresh pomegranate arils, for Christmas dinner!
Ingredients
- 1 pomegranate (it gives about ¾ cup to 1 cup of pomegranate juice)
- 4 tablespoons of demerara sugar
- Few drops of fresh lemon juice
- 2 to 3 drops of orange flower water
Preparation
Juice the pomegranate. (I use the blender to do so: I pulse the seeds for a few times, and strain the juice through a sieve pressing with the back of a tablespoon to collect as much liquid as possible.)
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the pomegranate juice and sugar. Stirring constantly, cook for about 7 minutes or until slightly thickened and not cloudy any longer.
Remove from the heat, and let it cool at room temperature. Stir in the lemon juice and orange flower water. Transfer the grenadine to a small bottle with a lid. Keep in the fridge.
