Medjool dates are large, sweet dates rich in flavour. I do not add any natural sweetener to this porridge as the medjool date makes it sweet enough for my taste. They are a good source of fibre, and contain high levels of the essential minerals potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, and manganese.
- ½ cup of rolled oats
- ½ cup of milk
- ½ cup of water
- 2-3 medjool dates, pitted and chopped
- 1 tablespoon of raisins
- 5-6 almonds, roughly chopped
In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, add the oats, milk and water. Stir in the medjool dates and raisins, and cook according to the package instructions of the rolled oats. (The oats that I buy are quick cooking. So stirring continuously, I bring to a simmer, and cook for 1-2 minutes more.)
Transfer the porridge to a serving bowl, and drizzle with the chopped almonds, and enjoy!
